So, you remember the weekend before Christmas when I was griping about the
weather? 70+ degrees before Christmas was just not acceptable to me (well, at least not at this age - ages child through early twenties, definitely, but, I digress). However, the 70 degree weather ended up being the perfect ingredient for a little family adventure! It was ridiculously and unbelievably sunny and warm that weekend, so, we decided that on Saturday morning, we were going to get up, pack a few blankets and toys and head over to the beach! Now, we live on a peninsula, so we are surrounded by water on all sides, but we are about 15-20 minutes from the oceanfront, either over in Ocean View, or Virginia Beach. However, since we were making this an adventure, we decided to drive about 45 minutes to get to Sandbridge, which is wayyyyyyy on the other side of
the world Virginia Beach. It is a beautiful beach, completely non-touristy, and just looks like the kind of place I would want to spend a quiet vacation with family.
It was a perfect morning - we saw just a few souls when we were out there, and then another family coming out as we were leaving. We spent the time walking, playing, watching a couple kids surf, talking and dreaming of Christmas and the New Year. Lucy, for some reason, was obsessed with the sand dunes, and really, really wanted to go climb on them. Harris had to be the enforcer, and crush all of her dreams of conquering the sand mountains, but, such is life.
It was nice to just sit in the sand with my husband and talk about all the wonderful things 2013 has shown and given us, and all the things we hope for and look forward to in 2014.
Sandbridge, you're more than alright in our book. We will see you soon.
